Braun is a consumer products company based in Kroneberg, Germany. Braun is best known for its male grooming products, electric toothbrushes and watches. Braun is a currently subsidiary of Procter & Gamble, although this international company was once a modest engineering shop in Frankfurt, Germany.
The engineer shop was owned by Max Braun, a mechanical engineer who made his living in 1923 by making radio set pieces. Innovative from the get go, Braun’s company grew successful due to its use of certain plastic materials, and by the 1930s was Germany’s leading radio manufacturer.
In 1932, Braun’s company developed the first radio combined with a record player.
In 1935, the official Braun brand was introduced.
In 1937. Max Braun received the For Special Achievements in Phonography award at the World’s Fair in Paris.
It wasn’t until the 1950s that Braun began making the electric shaver that it is now known for. The S50 was Braun’s first electric shaver, featuring an oscillating cutter block with a steel-foil mounting (a principle that’s still used today).
Braun has contemporary designs and abides with Functionalist philosophy. Today, Braun focusses on consumer products in the following categories:
- Shaving & Grooming

- Beauty Care
Hair care and hair removal (i.e. epilation).
