“Life is too good to miss hiding under the covers.”
Buckley’s is in the business of making you feel better, and the company isn't apologizing for the “bad” taste of their famous Buckley’s Mixture.
William Knapp was a Canadian pharmacist who took ownership of a Toronto store in 1919. Knapp discovered natural ingredients that could be used in the treatment of cough and colds, and that are active ingredients in what, today, is known as the Buckley’s Mixture. By the late 1930s, the Buckley’s Mixture was being sold to a global market.
Knapp’s son, Frank Buckley, returned from service in World War II and joined his father in business, marketing their special mixture using both of their entrepreneurial energy and financial skills.
Over the years, the company has agreed upon two things; the Buckley’s Mixture has a lousy taste, but it works. The Bad Taste ad campaign that stemmed from this agreement eventually made Buckley’s a household name.
