J.R. Watkins is a natural care company that’s been around since 1868. This company’s long history has established J.R. Watkins as a safe and trusted bath & body, gourmet, home care and natural remedies brand from Plainview, Minnesota.
Life and work back in 1868 came with aches and pains. Household chores and homecare left women with tired, aching muscles. Joseph Ray Watkins started the J.R. Watkins Medical Company and began manufacturing a pain reliever that contained camphor extract from evergreen trees and capsicum from red peppers.
In 1895, J.R. Watkins Medical Company started manufacturing a product line up that featured Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Ginger, Cloves, Peppermint Extract, and Lemon Extract.
In 1900, Watkins debuted the Watkins Almanac, Home Doctor and Cook Book. Customers learned tips to feeling better and eating well. During this year, Watkins also released the first facial care product that’s since been reformulated into Divine Day Cream and Nourishing Night Cream.
In 1917, J.R. Watkins introduced Pure Vegetable Oil Soap, which contains no animal by-products, fillers or colours, and hence dubbed “pure enough to eat.”
In 1919, J.R. Watkins began making herb tablets (i.e. vitamins), and the dietary supplement market took off, enduring for decades to come. Today, J.R. Watkins offers supplements that include Superfood Multiple and other formulas that promote eye, skin, hair and nail health.
In 2006, the original 1869 Trial-Mark Bottle is reintroduced to the public.
In 2007, J.R. Watkins introduced its Natural Home Care line, which features non-toxic, plant-based formulas that are biodegradable and phosphate-free. The company also introduced more than 20 spices and seasoning blends.
J.R. Watkins products contain natural and nourishing ingredients and botanical extracts. Most are 100% or almost 100% all-natural. They are safe, non-toxic and environmentally-friendly.
